Cairns Aged Care GP provides comprehensive, person-centred general practice services to residents of Infinite Care Edmonton Gardens and BUPA Mooroobool. All services are delivered on-site at your facility by Dr Sharon Muir FRACGP.

Comprehensive Medical Assessments (CMAs)
Annual and 18-month CMAs are a key part of aged care medical care. Dr Muir conducts thorough assessments that review every resident's physical health, medication needs, cognitive function, and overall wellbeing. These assessments inform care plans and are funded through Medicare.
General Consultations
Regular scheduled visits and urgent consultations for new or ongoing health concerns, infections, pain management, falls, and acute illness.
Chronic Disease Management
Ongoing management of chronic conditions including diabetes, heart disease, respiratory conditions, dementia, renal disease, and musculoskeletal conditions. GP Management Plans (GPMPs) and Team Care Arrangements (TCAs) are available where appropriate.
Medication Reviews and Management
Collaboration with facility pharmacists and nursing staff to review medications, reduce polypharmacy risks, and ensure safe and appropriate prescribing.
Residential Medicines Reviews (RMMRs)
Referrals to accredited pharmacists for in-depth medication reviews where clinically indicated.
Wound Care
Assessment and management of wounds, pressure injuries, and post-surgical sites, in collaboration with facility nursing staff.
Advance Care Planning
Support for residents and families in completing Advance Care Directives and Resuscitation Plans, respecting each resident's wishes for future care.
Palliative and End-of-Life Care
Compassionate, person-centred support for residents and families through end-of-life, including symptom management, pain control, and coordination with palliative care specialists.
Immunisations
Administration of influenza, pneumococcal, and other recommended vaccines for aged care residents in accordance with the Australian Immunisation Handbook.
Referrals
Referrals to specialists, allied health practitioners, diagnostic services, and hospital care as clinically indicated. Dr Muir uses MediRecords to send referrals electronically where possible.
Mental Health Care
Assessment and management of depression, anxiety, delirium, and behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD). Mental Health Treatment Plans (MHTPs) and referrals to psychiatry and psychology services are available.
Services — Billing
Fees and Billing
Cairns Aged Care GP bulk bills all standard GP consultations and Comprehensive Medical Assessments for eligible Medicare card holders. There is no out-of-pocket cost for most services.
To access bulk-billed services, residents must hold a valid Medicare card. Please ensure your Medicare card details are on file with the facility and with our practice.
Some specialist-referred services, procedures, and consumables may attract additional charges. The practice will inform you or your authorised representative if any out-of-pocket costs apply before proceeding.

Cairns Aged Care GP provides visiting GP services exclusively to residents of the following two facilities in Cairns, Queensland:

If you are a resident or family member at either of these facilities and wish to register with our practice, please speak with your facility's Director of Nursing or nursing staff.

Cairns Aged Care GP is accredited under the RACGP Quality Practice Accreditation (QPA) program administered by Quality Practice Accreditation (QPA Health).

Patient Information — How to Access Care
How to Access Our Services
Cairns Aged Care GP provides GP services exclusively to residents of Infinite Care Edmonton Gardens & Caravonica and BUPA Mooroobool.
If you are a resident of these facilities and would like to register with our practice, please follow these steps:
1. Speak with your facility's Director of Nursing or a senior nurse and let them know you would like to see Dr Sharon Muir.
2. The facility nursing team will contact our practice to arrange a scheduled visit.
3. Please have your Medicare card, pension or concession card (if applicable), and a list of current medications ready for your first appointment.
If you are a family member or authorised representative of a resident, please contact the facility directly in the first instance.

Appointments
Dr Muir conducts regular scheduled visits to both facilities. Urgent appointments can also be arranged through the facility nursing team when clinically necessary.
For urgent but non-emergency concerns outside of normal visit times, please advise your facility's nursing staff, who will assess the situation and contact the practice if required.
For a life-threatening emergency, always call 000 immediately.

Interpreter and Communication Services
We are committed to providing care that is accessible to all patients, regardless of language or communication needs.
If you or a resident requires an interpreter or has specific communication needs, please let the facility nursing staff or our admin team know at the time of booking. Contact Maria: maria@cairnsagedcaregp.com .We will arrange an appropriate interpreter or communication support.
Free telephone interpreter services are available through TIS National (Translating and Interpreting Service) on 131 450, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Your Health Records
Cairns Aged Care GP uses MediRecords, a secure cloud-based clinical information system, to maintain your health records.
You have the right to request access to your health records at any time. To make a request, please contact our Practice Manager in writing:

Requests will be acknowledged within 5 business days. There may be a reasonable charge to cover the cost of providing copies of records.

Cairns Aged Care GP accepts bookings via the doctors book at each Residential Aged Care Facility they operate at. If you wish to book an appointment, contact your RACF nurse who will add you to the doctors book

Service Days are Sunday-Friday inclusive. Operational times are 7am-9pm. After hours services are provided as well.

Cairns Aged Care GP’s primary doctor is Dr Sharon Muir, a Cairns resident and RACGP Fellow. Dr Muir has been specialising in General Practice services to Aged Care in Residential Aged Care facilities since 2015.

Your health records are stored securely in MediRecords, a cloud-based clinical information system. We take all reasonable steps to protect your information from unauthorised access, modification, disclosure, or loss. Access to your records is restricted to authorised clinical and administrative staff of the practice.
7. Accessing and Correcting Your Information
You have the right to request access to your personal health information held by this practice, and to request corrections if information is inaccurate or incomplete. To make a request, please contact our Practice Manager in writing:
